Something Different
Something a bit different may catch your eye. We do cut many gem stones in material sourced internationally. This photo shows fluorite banded with colour, Chrome Diopside, Spessartite Garnet, Rose Quartz of quality to facet and a red sapphire that has been cabochoned. It takes many hours sometimes to decide which is the best way to get the maximum in quality and sparkle out of a piece of material. To us the end result always intrigues.![]()
‘Lava Plains’ Sapphire
We are lucky enough to have 7 accessible gem-fields within 250km of our shop. One of these areas produces a fine blue sapphire commonly called ‘Lava Plains’ sapphire. Although mostly cutting small stones, it is the colour that fascinates everyone. Some are distinctly teal coloured, others are a bright clean blue blue.![]()
Gold Nuggets
Gold of course is the ultimate find in the Savannah region. Etheridge gold fields have produced many tones of gold over the years. With Kidston gold mine just south of us. Here they produced not only gold but good quality silver lead and copper. A very important mine for the state at that time. Those days are long gone but there are still properties willing to allow fossickers to detect and some wonderful nuggets are still to be found.![]()
Agate
These Agate slices so beautifully bezelled by sterling silver were patiently produced here in the region. Agate Creek is still very popular with fossickers, as the material found is so varied in colour shape and size. A completely different form of lapidary to faceting but none the less a hugely satisfying past-time with the wow factor equal to no other.![]()
